Resilience. The key to success during unprecedented times. Part 3: Share your experience.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that 2020 was a year for the books. Although we had high hopes for 2021, breakthrough cases of COVID-19 and the Delta variant have potentially slowed plans for a full and complete return to normalcy. Forced outside our business-as-usual comfort zone, we have…

Resilience. The key to success during unprecedented times.
Part 2 in an ongoing multi-part series: Assess every step.

As I discussed in my last installment, this past year has certainly been a unique and challenging one, to say the least. Perhaps what made it most difficult was the suddenness of the changes that we faced. But this also acted as motivator for every salesperson to assess the importance…

Resilience. The key to success during unprecedented times. Part 1: When in doubt, innovate.

What have you done in the past year to innovate your business?   It is clearly an understatement to say that the past year has been a challenging one. COVID-19 has impacted all of our lives, changing the way we interact with family and friends, educate our youth, food shop,…

The power of resiliency

Never has the greeting “Happy and Healthy New Year” taken on such gravitas. If 2020 proved anything, it’s humankind’s resiliency: the ability to evolve, rebuild, and recover after a major global setback. At Muller Martini, I’m proud to say we have demonstrated unbelievable resiliency during these uncertain times.   While…

Optimum productivity and performance? It comes at a price.

Within most industries, manufacturers and service providers get to choose how they can differentiate themselves from their competitors. Unfortunately, given today’s challenging newspaper production environment, price often plays a significant role. But, make no mistake, the lowest price typically comes at a cost.   That’s why I recommend that when…

Knowledge. It’s what sets the OEM apart.

Recently, I came across the following illustration by Hugh McLeod of Gapingvoid Culture Design Group. I think his chart could also represent the key difference between third-party suppliers (“Information”) and OEMs (“Knowledge”). How so? When maintaining and servicing highly expensive print finishing equipment, there’s a ton of available information. But…

Price versus reliable performance? Always go with the pro.

As the newspaper industry consolidates and budgets tighten, some facilities are taking a reactive approach to press conveyor and mailroom machine maintenance. And, what ensues is unexpected breakdowns that are often exasperated by temporary fixes. Consider standard conveyors. Inside the tracks are chains with thousands of small rollers. As those…

Can your service providers offer immediate technical support in a malware attack?

As you may have read, the Chicago Tribune Group, the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union Tribune (former Tribune properties) made headlines of their own recently when a significant virus infected their computer systems. It was a widespread cyberattack that impacted Tribune properties throughout the country, including the Baltimore…

Are Your Press Conveyors and Mailroom Prepared for 2019—and Beyond?

Another year is quickly coming to a close, and as operating budgets are being reviewed and finalized, it’s a good time to assess whether your press conveyance and mailroom equipment is prepared to protect your investment in “ink on paper.” I’m pleased to say that a number of newspapers did…

Protecting Your Investment Through Obsolescence Replacement.

Knowing that the runway to continue to put Ink on Paper for most newspapers is AT LEAST 10 years, we need to keep our existing equipment running efficiently, if full replacement is not an option. Electronic controls systems are the heartbeat of our operations. Yet, in most all conveyors and…
